It exists in 3 forms on the web. It's usually controversial.

I'm of the opinion that these forms of recognition from Her Majesty are more about patronage than anything else. It seems to be a way of branding people: "Order Of.." "Member of.." etc.

Someone tweeted on this topic recently and put it very well I think:

@chuzzlit: People should be public about turning down a NY honour. Show that it's normal not to accept patronage or accept that you're a subject.

https://twitter.com/chuzzlit/status/285046757690322944

It's a personal choice for people but I always admire those who turn it down and go on to tell everyone.Nicholarsehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03739762700957131333noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7356259733045816903.post-57609486898061601652012-12-21T16:42:55.838+00:002012-12-21T16:42:55.838+00:00Hi Nick, yeah he did good. Again.

When I first saw that story I was reminded of something that you wrote - er, somewhere - where you pick upon the difference between all men being equal and all men being born equal. So I was curious as to what you would make of Boyle's decision, for recognition of a person's actions was something that you were all for.

It depends on who the recognition comes from and whether you accept their validity, I guess! We shouldn’t have doubted him.

Unlike so many other phoney left-wingers (Sir Salman Rushdie, Dame Jenni Murray, Sir Alex Ferguson, Dame Helen Mirren etc) who leapt at the chance to join an Establishment elite they once railed against, Boyle said no.

Instead of coming out with patronising lies about accepting the honour on behalf of his people, he said he was already “very proud to be an equal citizen”, thus joining the ranks of glorious knighthood refuseniks like Vanessa Redgrave, LS Lowry, Jack Jones and Albert Finney, who shunned the notion of having compatriots believe they are below them.

Thank you Danny Boyle for twice this year inspiring people to think in a different, intelligent, forward-looking way, about what is important in our country.

FULL STORY HERE:

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/brian-reade-on-danny-boyle-refusing-1497705Nicholarsehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03739762700957131333noreply@blogger.com
